Blog post: The must-have for high-quality image transmission over long distances

In today's blog post, we look at the topic of video extenders and answer questions such as: What are video extenders and what are they used for. We will also introduce you to the advantages of video extenders from DIGITUS®!

What exactly are video extenders?

Do you want to distribute audio and video signals over long distances? The conventional option would be to lay cables over the required distance to distribute the signal. However, conventional AV cables are limited in length. Video extenders are the solution to this problem! They distribute audio and video signals over longer distances without having to distribute any cables - saving a lot of time.
As a rule, video extenders consist of two parts: a transmitter and a receiver.

The transmitteris connected to any signal source, such as a computer, and converts the audio and video signal so that it can be sent via a transmission medium.

The receiveris connected to a TV, projector or display. The signal is then converted back by the receiver and forwarded to the output device.

Where are video extenders used?

Audio and video extenders are an important part of the modern AV and IT infrastructure and are used in various areas:

They are used when you want to distribute AV signals without installing patch cables over a distance. Above all, they are used for the subsequent and short-term installation of a network.

One of the many application scenarios are events such as trade fairs. Video signals often have to be transmitted from cameras or computers to distant projectors or screens. Video extenders ensure that the signal arrives in high quality and without delay.

Video extenders can also be found in fitness studios, restaurants and hotels.

However, video extenders are also regularly used in offices or schools, as conference rooms or classrooms often need to transfer content from a computer to a distant screen or projector. This process is also made easier thanks to video extenders.

The video extender can also be a useful companion for private life. For example, if you want to set up a home theater, you can set up the technology in a separate room, even though the screen or projection screen is located elsewhere.

What are the advantages of DIGITUS® video extenders?

The Digitus® video extenders transmit your content in 4K UHD quality in any application area without any loss of quality. They can be installed quickly and without great effort. The extenders are very easy to operate via Plug & Play, without the need for drivers or software!

Digitus® has a broad portfolio of video extenders, including the following two variants:

4K Wireless HDMI KVM Extender Set
The 4K Wireless HDMI KVM Extender Set (DS-55328) transmits audio and video signals up to 150 meters. The set includes a transmitter and receiver unit and has a point-to-multipoint connection. This means that the extender set can be extended to up to four receiver units, which are available separately in the Digitus store (DS-55329). This means that you can not only distribute your signal over a long distance, but also to up to four output devices at the same time! In addition, a local monitor can be connected to the transmitter unit via the HDMI loop-out, allowing you to control the output on the receivers. So you have everything under control at a glance.

4K wireless video extender set
The 4K wireless video extender sets (DS-55323 & DS-55324) from DIGITUS® transmit audio and video signals up to 30 meters, making them ideal for home cinemas, conference rooms or school facilities. In contrast to the DS-55328, these sets have a point-to-point connection, which means that the transmitter unit can be connected to just one output device. The sets are each available with an HDMI-HDMI (DS-55323) or a USB-C-HDMI (DS-55324) connection so that you have the right set for your end device.

Are you interested? Then use your new knowledge to find the right extender set for your application scenario in the DIGITUS® store!
